About Me
As the Head of Engineering at PTFS Inc., Karl leads the company’s technical strategy and product development. He encourages a collaborative environment, aligning engineering objectives with broader company goals, and ensures that projects are executed efficiently and effectively.
Under Karl’s technical leadership, PTFS has expanded the Knowvation platform with advanced AI capabilities including hybrid semantic search, generative AI summarization, intelligent document classification, OCR enhancement, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions. He has guided the implementation of scalable AI architectures leveraging Solr vector search, local LLM deployments, and cloud AI ecosystems like OpenAI, Anthropic, and AWS to support enterprise knowledge discovery and automation initiatives.
Karl is a seasoned leader in technology with numerous executive roles in engineering and operations. He notably served as Vice President of Technology at 10Pearls for four years, where his strategic acumen and leadership significantly contributed to the company’s growth and technological advancements. During his tenure, he led a multi-year modernization initiative for Exelon/Constellation, enhancing nuclear procedures through advanced software solutions, device integration, reporting, and record-keeping.
His entrepreneurial journey includes founding and leading PowerStorm Technologies as Managing Partner, culminating in the successful acquisition of the company by 10Pearls in 2018. While at PowerStorm Technologies, he created and designed ComplianceMapper.com for a client – a simplified compliance management platform for consultants, risk professionals, compliance officers, and auditors.
Earlier in his career, Karl made impactful contributions as a Systems Architect at Neustar (now part of TransUnion), shaping the architectural frameworks for internet resolution and DNS systems. He is also the founder of PSISTORM Gaming, an esports organization celebrated for its numerous titles and competitive successes.
Karl holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Business Technology from James Madison University and a Master of Science in the Management of IT from the University of Virginia.
He also serves on the Advisory Board for Shenandoah University’s Transformative Leadership Program, providing insights into leadership within the tech sector.
